The NBA 2K League will jump back into action on May 5 and proceed remotely over the subsequent six weeks, consistent with an extensive press release from the NBA 2K League. All events will stream live on Amazon’s
Twitch and YouTube Gaming. All 23 NBA 2K League teams will play from their local markets.
Like many other E-Sports organizations, the NBA 2K League has recently been at the forefront of numerous dramatic setbacks. This is completely due to the dangerous COVID-19 pandemic, which led to most all of their events being disrupted. Company employees are suddenly being told to work from their abodes and not report to the office, leading to a loss of organization and productivity. Large physical gatherings are also prohibited to prevent the spread of the virus. However, over the past few weeks, the producers behind the NBA 2K League developed a remote broadcast model which would allow broadcasters to announce games from their homes. They’ve also devised a method for the NBA 2K League Studio team to switch between multiple games that may take place at the same time.
NBA 2K League season games will happen at 7 P.M. ET every Tuesday,
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with four matchups every evening. Each team will play a minimum of eight games with a best-of-three format. The winning team will earn a win toward the League’s regular season, while the loser will sustain a loss. A full season schedule is forthcoming.
The 2020 season will once more feature three in-season tournaments,
called The Tipoff, the Turn, and the Ticket, during which teams will compete for banners to complete The Banner Chain, powered by their sponsor AT&T. All 23 teams will compete within the Tipoff and the Turn. The 14 teams that don’t earn one among nine playoff spots via regular-season scores will compete within the Ticket, the winner of which can earn the tenth and final spot within the playoffs.
“We are thrilled to officially tip off the 2020 NBA 2K League season
remotely and hope the excitement of NBA 2K League competition provides
both new and returning fans with a fun way to stay connected and engage with our league during these unprecedented times,” NBA 2K League Managing Director Brendan Donohue stated in the press release.
Ahead of the 2020 season, the NBA 2K League recently launched a
campaign titled: “This Is Not A Game”. Through behind-the-scenes
storytelling, the campaign offers insight into the lives of the professionals who dedicate their lives to the pursuit of an NBA 2K Championship title.
Now in its third year, the NBA 2K League comprises 23 teams, each featuring six players who compete in 5-on-5 games throughout the regular season, tournaments and playoffs. While the coronavirus sure put a dent in the League’s plans, it’s quite reassuring to know that the game is all set for a
glorious comeback!
