A man is shot in the chest and chokes on his own blood. A pregnant woman falls, fatally stabbed in her neck. They just wanted to reach Santa Barbara. Now they’re dead because a woman needed information. The murderer, standing amid their bodies, is not the little girl you remember. Five years after the events of the first game, Ellie is cold, brutal and often merciless. Driven by revenge, the girl we knew from ‘The Last of Us’ has morphed into something more sinister. Her optimism is dimmed, her humour muted — her pun book, once filled with jokes, has been replaced by a journal. “The Last of Us Part II” chronicles Ellie’s descent from innocence to match the darkness of the post-apocalyptic hellscape around her.
For those who remember Ellie as a girl, understanding her evolution over the course of ‘The Last of Us Part II’ can be difficult. It’s a journey even those who created the game struggled to stomach at times. But that dissonance was precisely the chord the game’s co-director and writer, Neil Druckmann, wanted to strike in regard to Ellie.
Initially we always put a bit of light on the release date of any title, but this is just different, a gripping storyline; breaking all the records; a masterpiece with an apt storytelling makes it alive in the minds of the gamers; an evolutionary theory that redefines how a game can be so charismatic leaving an infinite impression on one’s mind!
However the title hit the stores on June 19, 2020 on PS4, since then it has been collecting accolades from the different quarters!
It has sold over 4 million copies worldwide in its first three days of sales, making it one of the fastest-selling games first-party PlayStation releases till date. Sales of ‘The Last of Us Part II’ has surpassed Sony and Santa Monica Studio’s 2018 release of “God of War,” which sold 3.1 million copies in its first three days. ‘The Last of Us Part II’ also outsold Insomniac Games’ “Marvel’s Spider-Man,” which sold 3.3 million copies in 2018.
“We are so immensely grateful to the millions of fans around the world who have played The Last of Us Part II and shared their experiences with us over the last week. We set out to tell a new kind of story, one that deals with difficult themes and would challenge you in unexpected ways. Hearing how the experience has resonated with so many of you and witnessing the type of thoughtful discussions it has sparked has been so incredible. We’ve also been so inspired by your creativity” remarked the game Director, Neil Druckmann.
