Arguably one of the top two players in North America, Hoa ‘Anakin’
Luu (while representing Circa eSports) won several Tekken Tour tournaments,
including multiple Wizard World events, Combo Breaker, and CEO. He also
came second at the North America Tekken 7 2016 Finals, and was a participant in
the 2016 King of the Iron Fist Tournament in Japan.
After claiming seven titles in 2017, and becoming the highest-ranked
player in North America, Luu is now with Red Bull Esports and has already
landed first place in the Texas Showdown in 2018. In 2019 he secured first and
third place at Tekken World Tour (Houston Texas) and Tekken World Tour (Las
Vegas) respectively!
Now the legend comes forward to lend his knowledge about the game
for the aspiring esports athletes! With Red Bull Gaming, Anakin is releasing a
six-week Tekken 7 training course to explain the edifice around Tekken 7. The
training course will start with the simple foundations of offense and defence
and gradually move into more complex fighting theories like analysing a more skilled opponent.
Tekken has the reputation of being the hardest fighting game to
learn because of 3D mechanics, and every character is almost having hundred
moves one can execute with specific button combos. That’s a lot of information
to take in, and when there are over 40 characters, each with expansive move
lists, that can turn new players off. To learn these, master them, and actually
be able to execute them when playing against another player is overwhelming.
Anakin remarks, “This game series I’ve been playing and loving
for 20 years, people are finally realizing how great it is and how fun it can
be in the pro scene. From game to game, it might not change as much as some
other fighting games, but the way you play the game remains
unchanged. Tekken has always remained true to its roots.” So the learning
curve goes on and on!
