Who doesn’t love free credit? Reports are coming in around the
world of Sony sending out free PlayStation Store credit
to PlayStation Plus members. It’s unclear what the requirements are
to be eligible for the promotion aside from being actively subscribed to the
Japanese giant’s membership scheme, of course but it looks like currency is
being handed out right around the globe.
It probably started happening since the night of July 24, and got a
couple of confirmed instances of this happening. The message reads, “To
celebrate 10 years of PlayStation Plus, we’ve added £10.00 PlayStation Store
credit to your account. Thank you for choosing PlayStation Plus.” The gift is a
lot better than the lacklustre free PS Plus 10th Anniversary PS4
theme that was given out earlier this month, a bright yellow eyesore that
has no custom sound effects or animations at all; effectively just a custom
wallpaper.
Sony did previously announce that it would be celebrating the 10th
anniversary in different ways. There is a free 10th PlayStation Plus
Anniversary theme to grab from the PS Store (mentioned early), and the
company added Erica as a bonus game to this month’s PS Plus line up, alongside
NBA 2K20 and the Rise of the Tomb Raider 20 Year Celebration!
After 10 years, the PlayStation Plus service has evolved in many
ways since its original 2010 iteration. The biggest change came with the PS4
requiring PS Plus for online play, but the service has continued to offer free
games every month. Aside from removing free PS3 and Vita games from the
service, PS Plus hasn’t changed much in recent years, making many believe
its long overdue for an overhaul as we head into next-gen!
