Riot Games announced via their official Twitter account on
Thursday a Twitch Rivals event surrounding its newest tactical shooter, VALORANT. The VALORANT Launch Showdown will take place the weekend after its
official public release next Tuesday. Players from around the world will
compete by region for a share of the $200K USD prize pool.
The Tweet reads: “To celebrate launch, we’re
teaming with competitive FPS creators to hold a global tournament and crown 1
winning team from each region. Up for grabs is a $200,000 prize pool and the
right to count themselves among the first global VALORANT champs.”
The tournament will be played in conjunction
with Twitch’s Summer Games Fest, which takes place from June 5th to 7th, on the
platform’s new dedicated gaming and esports information channel, “Twitch
Gaming”. The new channel will feature gaming news, events, and exclusive
gaming-focused content as disseminated by Twitch streamers and their
communities.
The channel will have the latest gameplay, exclusive interviews
from the developers of the 2K E-Sports franchise, and an indie showcase that
will highlight some of the top indie video game titles that are available to be
co-streamed, according to Twitch.
In other
important VALORANT news, today is the
last day that players will be able to access the game’s closed beta version.
Servers will be taken down after a final set of online games. This is because
the game is slated for a complete release on PC on the 2nd of June. While some
players may find the wait quite boring, the game being offline for a few days
gives you time to read up, prepare, and get ready for its release!
