The latest Fifa title has reinstated many new features and the most prominent change has been its ICON Swaps! ICON Swaps is a new way to allow players to unlock selected ICONs in exchange for Player Tokens which can be earned by completing objectives through rivals and squad battle matches. Each Individual ICON in an ICON Swaps requires a certain number of Player Tokens in order to redeem.
What is the motive of EA behind this?
Yahsir Qureshi, Live Producer on FIFA Ultimate Team remarked,
“Since FUT 18, we released Individual ICON SBCs that required ICONs to
complete. We used ICON requirements in order to keep SBC requirements from
being overly lengthy and also to help alleviate other pinch points in the
market. However, what we saw was that many ICONs (especially Base ICONs) were
being viewed and valued more as tools to complete SBCs rather than as players
in your squad. That was not the experience we wanted to create.”
Is it intended towards deep grinding?
Buying base icons and submitting it towards achieving a desired
higher rated ICON (ICON SBCs) can never help a gamer to improve on his game,
rather playing 1vs1 matches against online opponents (Rivals matches) and AI
opponents (Squad battles) will definitely add sharpness to your game with the
time. Similarly anyone buying FIFA points and opening packs in abundance
collecting millions of coins will not guarantee an ICON! (though a chance is
always there to pack an ICON from pack openings) But that depends on the luck
of that individual and who play the game at the professional level will never
sit idle trusting his luck, in spite he will take the path of grinding to avail
the Player Token(s) to redeem his required ICON.
So this change in the process of availing ICONs is a welcome one!
But let me remind that ICONs are available in transfer market as well, but how
many can really afford a Prime ICON or an ICON Moment(s) card?
The grind must go on!
