We speculated a lot about which organisation would acquire Forward Gaming. Would it be a North American one or maybe even one from Europe? No, in the end, it’s a Chinese organisation Quinn ‘CCnC‘ Callahan and his team-mates will play for.\
This is a big surprise! The TI winning organisation of 2014 will compete at The International 2019, although their Chinese squad surrounding Song ‘Sccc‘ Chun didn’t make it through their Regional Qualifier.
Forward move to China
It seems like manager KBBQ‘s relations to the Chinese Dota 2 scene helped his team to find a new home in China – at least for the upcoming TI9: Newbee signed the former Forward Gaming squad. The team decided to represent not only North America at the upcoming TI, but also one of the most notable Chinese organisations.
This is a perfect move by the outfit considering that they’ll play at the first TI in China. They will probably enjoy Newbee’s training facilities and the help of its local members – great to acclimatise to the Far East. Although the team is North American – except for Johan ‘pieliedie‘ Åström – they probably can count on the Chinese fan support if they make it into the playoffs.
What will happen with Sccc and his squad?
Roman ‘Resolut1on‘ Fominok expressed what everybody else was thinking: what happened to the old Newbee line-up surrounding Song ‘Sccc‘ Chun?
It seems like Newbee won’t drop their Chinese roster because they don’t have to. An organisation can have as many teams as they want as long as they don’t compete at TI together. In the original announcement on Facebook Newbee explained that the NA squad will represent them in Shanghai.
Newbee and the players, coach and manager of former Forward Gaming have come to an agreement that the team will be representing Newbee, as well as NA DotA, in the upcoming TI9.
We would like to thank the players, coach and manager for putting their trust in Newbee and we wish them the best of luck💙. This announcement could be a hint that the squad will be searching for a new organisation right after TI9.
