It all went down to the wire in the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 GLOBAL SERIES in Amsterdam
as Michael ‘Megabit’ Bittner from Germany edged out the French Fouad “Rafsou’ Fares representing OL Lyon.
EA Sports held its Global Series Playoffs in Amsterdam from 28th may
to 30th May where 16 berths for the Fifa eWorld Cup were on the line for xbox players over the globe who qualified for the event. A total of 64 participants qualified for the event by winning various qualifiers leading them to the big stage. The action kicked off on the 28th of may where the players had to get out of the Swiss style group stages. In Swiss style format , you play a player with a similar record as yours. You win four, you are through to the knock out stages. You lose four, you are out! We saw a few shock exits on the first day with the likes of PSG Daxee crashing out with four loses.
Day 2 was the qualification day . 16 spots tothe FIFA eWorld Cup to be held in London in August were to be secured . After getting out of the group stages , the players had to win their round of 32 game which would see them reach the round of 16 and also clinch their berth in london! Hashtag Harry and hashtag Ryan , the crowd favourites could not make it to the top 16 and it was the end of the road for them . Meanwhile hashtag Dreamr became the only player from hashtag united to qualify .
OL Rafsou was dubbed “ The Giant Killer”, en route to the final as he beat the wonderkid F2TEKKZ , the champion from Barcelona, in the round of 32, costing him a place in the grand finals. He then beat Rogue MsDossary in the quarter finals. MsDossary , the reigning champion of the fut champions cup in Manchester , was a favourite to win the championship but his run came to and end after losing 6-4 to Rafsou. This lead to a mouth watering semi final clash between Rafsou and the defending world champion faZe Gorilla who had been scoring goals for fun up till now. Rafsou was an underdog going into the game but he held his nerves and beat Gorilla to reach the finals. Megabit on the other hand had a comparatively easier run to the finals. He beat Ajax Dani in the semi finals to set up the finals between him and Rafsou.
Rafsou’s dream run came to an end as he was beaten by the German machine Megabit in the finals . It was an action packed final which could’ve gone in anyone’s favour but Megabit came on top and won it for his team VFL Bochum and his nation Germany to be crowned the new xbox champion
